The Prayer of Jabez
Even though this prayer is found in the Bible, it embraces all who believe there is Good in the Universe and that we are part of that Universal Good.
I pray this prayer every day and I know it works. It works because I understand the power it has. I know that its power is internal to me and my connection with it.
Oh that You would bless me indeed. Yes, bless me! Bless me with the supernatural goodness of the Good. I don't ask for a car or a boat, but I might get one anyway, if that's part of the Plan.
and enlarge my territory. Obviously, territory in this case has nothing to do with real estate for most of us. Here, we ask for the strengthening of our talents and the power to work to larger potential.
that Your hand would be with me. If our spirits are connected to The Spirit, we walk in grace and in harmony with the forces of life.
and that You would keep me from evil. We don't want to waste our time and energy fighting temptation. It's much easier if temptation stays away from us.
Peace

His prayer was not just his way of speaking with God, but also his way of denying his own earthly and sinful nature. He understood that it is impossible to love God and not love man.
